Cocktail dresses for juniors

One of the nicest things about being a teenage girl is that there are so many different types of clothes to wear. From casual t-shirts and jeans to satin tops and swirly skirts, the choices are incredible. At times, there's a need for a special dress to fit the young girl in the household. Sometimes I've encountered an unhappy teenager and parent shopping for the ‘right' item. Who said girls are still confined to pastels? That "little black dress" that is an important part of any woman's wardrobe is suitable for young teens, also. Jewelry, scarves, belts and collars can add color to the outfit, as well as a light jacket or see-through slinky, colorful tunic. Accessories such as shoes, tights, and sling purses help create the overall effect of elegance.

Sometimes people ask where a young teen would wear a cocktail dress. This dress code is usually associated with cocktail parties and semi-formal functions. It is typically shorter than a formal full length gown and may be appropriate for a school dance or wedding. Another place that comes to my mind is on a cruise. The Captain's Party is often accompanied by a formal party for the younger set of tourists on board. The under-twenty-one group is encouraged to dress for a special get-together; it is a definite cultural learning experience.

There is something exciting about an introduction to dressing up and looking your best to impress others while you put your best foot forward. In our more relaxed society, many of our youth never get the chance to learn social skills and mandates.

Start the shopping for cocktail dresses for juniors by listing shops and boutiques to visit. Call ahead to find out their hours, price range, and sizes carried. This will avoid wasting time at businesses that do not fit your needs. Some businesses will actually give you pointers about other shops that carry what is needed. Be certain to drop a thank you note to anyone giving assistance outside of the norm.

It is a lot more fun to shop when the stores are close together. If you have definite feelings about what your junior is not allowed to wear, visit the shops you've selected first. Cross any store filled with unsuitable dressy garb off your list. It's a fact of life that something there will attract your young teen, and result in hurt feelings when it is denied.

Visit the chic shops first. There is a special feeling about looking at clothing displayed in a loving manner. The display will often have a variety of suggested accessories to show the beauty of the cocktail dress. Adjustments can often be made for a small fee.

When a dress meets approval, request it be held for the day, and look at one or two other sites on your list. Possibly, something else will catch your teen's eye, and be even better. Do call the shop holding the other dress so they can return it to stock.
